The dark side of rustic

13 Jan

Rustic interiors are undergoing a modern renaissance. It is refreshing to see creative modern twists of this age old, classic style.  Talented inteiror designer, Ineke van den Berg, is behind the transformation of this stunning Dutch Art Deco residence. Images: Bravacasa, 11/12

D.I.Y. Vintage Writing Desk

5 Jun

There is an upside to midnight baby feeding – you get the scour the internet for fabulous design projects 🙂

Last night I stumbled upon this very cute writing desk makeover by Greer Clayton(painter, artist and keen traveller). A playful statement piece perfect for a bachelorette pad, tween room, nursery or office. It was made over using a polka dot stencil by Cutting edge stencils. Get busy this long weekend 🙂

The Spanish Apartment

4 Jun

Scanned my email alerts this morning and was very excited to see the words “white”, “mosaic” and “design” in the same sentence (always a good start). Take a look at this very striking but elegant apartment in Barcelona. Complete with original hand cut mosaic floors, high ceilings and a minimalist scheme – it doesn’t get better than this, and they certainly don’t make them like they used to. Spotted by TheDesignerPad and originally shared by Elle Decor España.Enjoy…

Ceramic Obsession

31 May

It’s no secret that I have been utterly mesmerised by ceramics for some time now. There is a reason why they’ve been popular for thousands of years – they are sustainable, beautiful and have the ability to dramatically transform interiors for a relatively low cost. Here are some pics from my ‘to lust over’ collection.

P.S. I have been adding to my inspiration folder for years and cant remember all the sources, so if you can help identify some – much appreciated 🙂

Alternative name signs for your child’s room

14 Apr

Sick of the wooden letters? So am I. Here are some great DIY projects for something different for your child’s room.

Button Letter Nursery Artwork

Printer’s Type Wood Blocks

I love reusing materials. These blocks make very cool, industrial style artworks for your child’s room. A child’s room doesn’t have to be “babyish” at all – you can design a space to last…

I bought these blocks for my son for under $50!

Mosaic Signs

I love mosaic – not the pre-cut, ready to apply patterns that are now popular but the hand cut, artisan craft that’s been around for thousands of years.

A large mosaic letter for something different…

Saw this amazing olive tree displayed in an art exhibition in Ravenna.

31 Aug

My morning inspiration has come from Design Milk’s coverages of O’verlays by Danika Cherlye. These gorgeous geometric appliques can be placed anywhere from tables, drawer fronts, and cabinets to mirrors and even windows. Suddenly, IKEA furniture and other plain Jane varieties have become more attractive with this great DIY tool.
